Ultrasonic flowmeters measure volume flow via calculating the time difference of sound waves, offering non-invasive, accurate monitoring without moving parts.
Working Principle
A+X Ultrasonic flow meters calculate fluid flow velocity by measuring the propagation time of ultrasonic waves in the medium. The difference in transmission time between upstream and downstream sensors reflects the flow velocity, which is then converted into flow rate.
During measurement, the sensors located upstream and downstream simultaneously emit ultrasonic pulses, one propagating against the flow and one propagating with the flow. The pulse propagates faster in the direction of the flow than against it. Since the two pulses travel the same distance, the time difference in transmission directly reflects the flow velocity of the fluid. The greater the time difference between these two ultrasonic pulses, the greater the flow rate.
● Wide Turndown Ratio: Accuracy maintained over a 200:1 range, suitable for industries like petroleum, chemical, metallurgy, power, hospitals, and schools where flow variations are significant.
● Non-contact Measurement: Measures flow via ultrasonic wave propagation time without direct fluid contact, adaptable to diverse environments.
● Zero Pressure Loss: No interference with the flow field, ensuring no additional resistance or pressure loss—ideal for high-precision applications.
● High Accuracy & Reliability: Excellent for corrosive, non-conductive, radioactive, or flammable media.
● Wide application range: It can measure the volumetric flow rate of liquids and gases, applicable to pipelines of various diameters, including large-diameter pipes.
● Zero-point stability: Can detect very small flow rates, useful for detecting pipeline leaks and early warning.
● Easy Installation & Maintenance: No pipe cutting required; no valves, flanges, or bypass pipes needed.
● Fluid Property Independence: Unaffected by pressure, temperature, viscosity, or density; suitable for contaminated or corrosive media.
Applications
1. Industrial flow measurement: Widely used in industrial fields to measure the flow of liquids and gases, including water, petroleum, chemical raw materials, natural gas, gases, steam, etc.
2. Environmental monitoring: Monitoring the flow in wastewater treatment plants, sewage treatment plants, and water treatment equipment to ensure environmental compliance with discharge standards. It can also be used to monitor atmospheric emissions and industrial waste management processes.
3. Energy management: Used in energy management systems, such as heat meters and gas meters, to measure the flow of thermal energy and gas. This is essential for monitoring and controlling energy consumption in buildings.
4. Liquefied gas metering: Measuring and monitoring the flow of liquefied petroleum gas, liquefied natural gas, and other liquefied gases to ensure accurate and safe supply.
5. Storage and transportation industry: Flow monitoring and measurement in oil fields, pipeline transportation, hydropower stations, and chemical industries are critical for safe and effective fluid transportation.
